Tetia McMichael
co-founder of Lakeview at Fontana
Creating peaceful and soul-nurturing spaces where guests can disconnect from devices and
reconnect to nature is the mission for Lakeview at Fontana Co-founder Tetia McMichael.
For close to three decades, she has led the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the
Smoky-Mountain spa resort that is widely known for its picturesque Treetop Soaking Cabanas that
are designed for pure relaxation.
Tetia’s background in design and deep love of nature united in her 20s when she was offered the
opportunity to collaborate on a new venture - bringing a neglected 1950’s motel in Bryson City, North
Carolina back to life. Incorporating her calming, minimalist style to guest spaces was a natural fit with
the already abundant 35 acres of forested mountainside.
With an open canvas and the desire to create a place where guests feel nurtured and welcomed,
Tetia successfully created an accolade-filled respite for those wishing to retreat & relax. Inspired by
travel, especially frequent visits to Mexico, her personal touches can be found in the details
throughout the resort including in the guest spaces and the popular Treetop Soaking Cabanas.
Another key component to the success of Lakeview at Fontana is the nearly all-female staff, many of
whom have been with the resort for more than 20 years.
In her leisure time, Tetia and her husband love to explore and seek new places and people. Most
days are spent outside with their dogs enjoying the peace and beauty of the mountains.
